To save a file as a webpage (*.htm;*.html) to the desktop by using the ppSaveAsHTML argument for the *.htm file format, without embedding true type fonts (msoFalse), follow these steps:

Step 1: Open the PowerPoint presentation in PowerPoint 2010.
Step 2: Press "Alt"+ "F11" on your keyboard and Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications opens.

Step 4: Copy and paste the following text into the Immediate window:

I bought an iPad several weeks ago, and one of the main reasons I did was so that I would be able to show my South African PowerPoint presentation with relative ease. I dreamed of carrying my little iPad not only to South Africa but also to local schools and home parties to spread the word about our educational fund-raising efforts in Addo Township and Cape Town (www.marthatcummings.com).

The process was a complete nightmare, until I came across www.Moyeamedia.com. Oh, but first, the nightmare.

First I went out and purchased the Documents to Go Premium edition, as I was told that the software would show the PowerPoint without complications. Not true. Then I went out and purchased Keynote, the Apple version of PowerPoint. While that was able to import my PowerPoint, the sound would not progress beyond the first "slide." Then I found a free download of a PowerPoint-to-video converter that, despite my best efforts, would simply not duplicate the sound, even though that feature was advertised with resounding pride.

That is the way I prefer. Though not ready for MS PowerPoint, iPad gives good support for video playback. Below follows the video specifications of iPad:

iPad compatible video file formats:

H.264 video - up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
MPEG-4 video - up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
Motion JPEG - up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format

Video is no doubt the best choice for playing a PowerPoint presentation full of visual aids.

Benefits of converting PowerPoint to video for iPad:

Best image file format for iPad: JPEG - takes the least memory yet with high quality.

To save your PowerPoint presentation to a static set of pictures, do the following:

1. Go to the PowerPoint presentation. Click the Office button (in 2007 version) or File -> Save As -> Other Formats.
2. A Save As interface pops up. In the Save as type dropdown, select *.jpg. Click Save.
3. A message prompts asking you how you want to export the slide. Choose Every Slide to export all the slides in your presentation. The slides will be output to a folder with separate slide files, named as Slide x.JPG.

Now you can import the set of slide pictures to your iPad. Go to your iTunes, select File -> Preferences, in the iPad tab, and choose Photos to add in the slides from the specified folder. Click OK for sync.

When the slides are synced to your iPad, you can view it in a picture slideshow mode.

Limitations: Everything dynamic in PowerPoint will get lost, i.e. animations, timings, music, movie clips.

Miss Universe 2010 Winner Miss Mexico Jimena Navarrete

A 22-year-old Mexico woman has won the Miss Universe 2010 pageant after donning a flowing red gown and telling an audience it’s important to teach children family values.

Jimena Navarrete of Guadalajara was first to answer an interview question Monday night and the last of 83 contestants standing in the headline-grabbing pageant on the Las Vegas Strip.

Her one-strap gown flowed behind her like a sheet as she walked. Earlier, she smiled in a violet bikini as she confidently strutted across the stage.

Asked by Olympic gold-medal figure skater Evan Lysacek how she felt about unsupervised Internet use, Navarrete said the Internet is important but parents need to be careful and watch over their children.

“I do believe that Internet is an indispensable, necessary tool for the present time,” she said through an interpreter. “We must be sure to teach them the values that we learned as a family.”

First runner-up was Miss Jamaica Yendi Phillipps, while second runner-up was Miss Australia Jesinta Campbell.

Navarrete is Mexico’s second Miss Universe; Lupita Jones of Mexico won the title in 1991. Navarrete replaces Miss Universe 2009 Stefania Fernandez of Venezuela.

Navarrete’s win thwarted Miss Venezuela Marelisa Gibson from giving the South American country a third consecutive win. Neither Gibson nor Miss USA Rima Fakih made the top 15 finalists.

Navarrete won a package of prizes including an undisclosed salary, a luxury New York apartment with living expenses, a one-year scholarship to the New York Film Academy with housing after her reign, plus jewelry, clothes and shoes fit for a beauty champion.

Campbell won the Miss Congeniality Universe award. Miss Thailand Fonthip Watcharatrakul won Miss Photogenic Universe and a second award for having the best national costume.

Miss Universe Winners 1952–2009

Miss Universe is an annual international beauty contest run by the Miss Universe Organization. The pageant is one of the most publicized beauty contests in the world with 600 million viewers.

The contest was founded in 1952 by California clothing company Pacific Mills. The pageant became part of Kayser-Roth and then Gulf and Western Industries, before being acquired by Donald Trump in 1996.

The current Miss Universe is Stefanía Fernández, from Venezuela. She won the title on August 23, 2009.

83 women, representing their proud countries will compete tonight for the Miss Universe 2010 crown. The top 15 had been pre-selected by the judges.

The 59th edition of the pageant will be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. live broadcast worldwide. The prestigious event will be hosted by Bret MichaelsBret Michaels and Natalie Morales.

Stefanía Fernández will crown her successor at the end of this event. She has spent her reign traveling as an advocate for HIV/AIDS education, research and legislation. The woman crowned Miss Universe 2010 will continue to do the same.

Each contestant, representing more than 80 countries, will compete in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and interview. Worldwide distribution of the competition has topped more than 190 countries in past years.

Movie/Video Doesn't Play in PowerPoint 2007

There are many reasons why your movie file may not play. Below are some things to check. Before trying these, you may want to verify that your movie file is on the list of PowerPoint compatible file formats.

You sent your presentation through e-mail, and your recipient says the movies don't play. Movies files are always and are not part of your presentation. Copy the movie files into the same folder as the presentation. Then use the Package for CD feature to update the links and bundle the associated files. Or you can update the links manually. To do this, copy the movie files into the folder that contains the presentation, and then delete the movies and add them back.
You shared your presentation or copied it to a network file server, and the movies don't play now. Movie files are always and are not part of your presentation. Move or copy the movie files to the same folder as the presentation or to the network file server. Then use the Package for CD feature to update the links and bundle the associated files. Or you can update the links manually. To do this, copy the movie files into the folder that contains the presentation, and then delete the movies and add them back.
You copied your presentation to a CD, and now the movie doesn't play on a different computer. Copy the movie files to the same folder as the presentation. Then use the Package for CD feature to update the links to the movie files, and copy the presentation again to the CD.
You moved your movie files to a new location, and now when you run your presentation, the movie doesn't play. Movies files are always and are not part of your presentation. Copy the movie files to the same folder as the presentation. Then use the Package for CD feature to update the links and bundle the associated files. Or you can update the links manually. To do this, copy the movie files into the folder that contains the presentation, and then delete the movies and add them back.
You cannot find and play your movie file. If the path name of the linked movie file exceeds 128 characters, Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 cannot find and play it. Move or copy the movie file into the same folder as the presentation, and then delete the movie and add it back to update the link (path information).
You inserted multiple movies or sounds, but only the top movie or sound is playing. Drag the movie icons or sound icons off each other and then try to play them.
The movie file format is not supported in Office PowerPoint 2007. Try playing the movie outside of Office PowerPoint 2007 by using Microsoft Windows Media Player, which is part of Microsoft Windows. Start Windows Media Player and then use the File menu (you might have to maximize the window to see the File menu) to open and play your movie file in Windows Media Player. If the movie doesn't play, Windows Media Player gives you detailed error messages and a Help link that can help you troubleshoot the problem.

If the movie plays in Windows Media Player, you can insert it as a media clip in your presentation by doing the following:

On the Insert tab, in the Text group, click Object.

In the Object type list, click Create from file, and then enter the name of the movie file or click Browse.

Note A movie that you play in Office PowerPoint 2007 by using Windows Media Player cannot have animation settings and special timings assigned to it. Instead, you play it by clicking buttons in Windows Media Player.

If Office PowerPoint 2007 won't play your movie file either in Office PowerPoint 2007 or in Windows Media Player, try creating a hyperlink or action button on your slide and linking to a program that can play the movie file.

Your movie file is listed as being compatible with PowerPoint, but your movie still doesn't play correctly. (See a list of PowerPoint compatible file formats.) Although your movie file may have the same file extension as one listed as being compatible, it may not play correctly if the correct version of the codec is not installed, or if the file has not been encoded in a format recognized by your version of Microsoft Windows. Encoding is the process of converting data into a stream of ones and zeros. Install the correct codec or re-encode the file.
Your movie is captioned or subtitled. Office PowerPoint 2007 cannot play captioned or subtitled movies. To resolve the issue, try creating a hyperlink to the movie.
Your movie plays as a white rectangle. The path name to the linked movie file exceeds 128 characters, and Office PowerPoint 2007 cannot find and play the movie. Move or copy the movie file into the same folder as the presentation, and then delete the movie and add it back to update the link (path information).
Your movie plays as a black rectangle. This often indicates incompatible hardware acceleration. Try turning down your Hardware Acceleration setting, which is found in Control Panel.

If you are using dual monitors (sometimes called multiple monitors), make sure both monitors are set to the same screen resolution in Control Panel, or try to set both monitors to a lower screen resolution.

You can quickly and easily add a screenshot to your Office file to enhance the readability or capture information without leaving the program that you are working in. This feature is available in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word. You can use it to take a picture of all or part of the windows open on your computer. These screenshots are easy to read in printed documents and on PowerPoint slides that you project.

Screenshots are useful for capturing snapshots of information that might change or expire, such as a breaking news story or a time-sensitive list of available flights and rates on a travel Web site. Screenshots are also helpful for copying from Web pages and other sources whose formatting might not successfully transfer into the file by any other method. Screenshots are static images. When you take a screenshot of something (for example, a Web page), and the information changes at the source, the screenshot is not updated.

When you click the Screenshot button, you can insert the whole program window or use the Screen Clipping tool to select part of a window. Only windows that have not been minimized to the taskbar can be captured.

When you choose Screen Clipping, your entire window will temporarily become opaque or “frosted over”. After you select the part of the window that you want, your selection will show through this opaqueness.

Open program windows are displayed as thumbnails in the Available Windows gallery and when you pause your pointer over a thumbnail, a tooltip pops up with the program name and document title. For example, if you are in Word, you might see Microsoft Excel - Book 1 as a minimized window that you could add to your Office file.

Note Only one screenshot at a time can be added. To add multiple screenshots, repeat steps 2 and 3 below.

Click the slide that you want to add the screenshot to.
On the Insert tab, in the Images group, click Screenshot.

Do one of the following:

To add the whole window, click the thumbnail in the Available Windows gallery.
To add part of the window, click Screen Clipping, and when the pointer becomes a cross, press and hold the left mouse button to select the area of your screen that you want to capture.

If you have multiple windows open, click the window you want to clip from before clicking Screen Clipping. When you click Screen Clipping, the program you are working in is minimized and only the window behind it is available for clipping.

Tip After you add the screenshot, you can use the tools on the Picture Tools tab to edit and enhance the screenshot.

Remove the underline from hyperlink text

Right-click the hyperlink text, and then click Remove Hyperlink.
On the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, click Shapes, and then under Rectangles, click Rectangle.
Drag to draw the rectangle so that it covers the hyperlink text that you want to hide.

Right-click the rectangle, and then click Format Shape. In the Format Shape dialog box, do the following:

Click Fill in the left pane, click Color in the right pane, and then click the color that matches the background of your presentation.
Click Line Color in the left pane, click No line in the right pane, and then click Close.

Automatically save versions of your presentations

You must turn the AutoRecover or AutoSave settings to take advantage of this capability.

Organize your slides into sections

You can organize large slide decks to be more manageable and easier to navigate by using sections. Merge and compare presentations

This feature is useful when you want to compare two presentations just to see what differences exist, without the optional goal of saving the combined (merged) presentation.

You can manage and choose which changes or edits you would like to incorporate for the final presentation. The Merge and Compare feature minimizes the time you spend synchronizing edits from multiple versions of the same presentation.

Work with separate PowerPoint presentation files in different windows

Also, you can use the new Reading view to show two presentations in a slide show in separately managed windows simultaneously, with full animation effects and full media support.

Work from anywhere: PowerPoint Web Apps

Work on your presentation even when you’re away from PowerPoint. Store your presentation on a web server that hosts the Microsoft Office Web Apps. Then, you can use PowerPoint Web App to open the presentation in your browser. You’ll be able to view it and even make changes. The Office Web Apps are available by logging in to Windows Live, or by accessing your organization’s SharePoint Foundation 2010 site with the Office Web Apps installed.

To add character by using color and a background, do one of the following:

Add PowerPoint slides to Google Earth

In mid-March I will be heading to SCETV studios in Columbia for a week of workshops, teaching South Carolina teachers about Google Earth. I do this every year and thoroughly enjoy meeting educators from around the state. Each year I try to change things up a bit, and this year is no different.

I’m really tired of PowerPoint. Or, more specifically, I’m tired of the laziness of boring bullet points read to an audience. I try to keep these to a minimum in my presentations, preferring to demonstrate actual software rather than spend the entire presentation in PowerPoint. This time I think I’ve found a way to combine both PowerPoint and Google Earth for an effective presentation, and here’s how I’m going to do it.

My inspiration for this mash-up comes from two sources. First there is this video from a group of students in Taiwan, using Google Earth as a basis for their music video in “Zoom between Trans-ethnicity.”

The zooming effects are really cool, and illustrate that the GE engine can be used for much more than just earth imagery.

Fast forward a bit to a month or so ago when I discovered the Prezi demonstration platform. This platform uses zooming as a transitional element between display screens, feeling very much like Google Earth. I had thought I might use this for the workshops, but I actually found an even better method.

Step One – I opened up my PowerPoint presentation, then went to File and Save As. Instead of a PPT file I selected JPG. This would save all of my slides as individual image files.

Step Two – I created a folder in Google Earth called “Presentation”

Step Three – I began adding the slides as image overlays. I would choose a location, orientation, and zoom level for each slide, then would “snapshot” that overlay view.

Step Four – If the slides were not already in order, I would drag and drop them into the correct position.

Step Five – During the presentation, turn off any additional layers, including borders, labels, and roads. These will interfere with the slides.

Step Six – The folder can be saved as a KMZ file for sharing.

The video clip below demonstrates how this can be used, starting with my opening slide zoomed completely out, and then zooming in for additional slides. You may want to replay the video at least once, as it tends to be smoother the second time through. It’s fairly short.

Using this technique I can demonstrate one more way that Google Earth can be used, without having to leave the program to go to my presentation slides.
