Extensions	The default file extension for saving presentations in PowerPoint 2003 and earlier versions.	The default file extension for saving presentations in PowerPoint 2007 and later versions. Open Way	Open in edit mode within PowerPoint allowing you to use all the menus and commands.	Same with PPT.	Open in slideshow (play-presentation) mode, and you see no PowerPoint interface.	Same with PPS.

• Open Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Select File from the top menu bar if you are using PowerPoint 2010. Select the Microsoft Office button if you are using PowerPoint 2007.
• Choose Open from the menu. Locate the .pps file or .ppsx on your system. Select the file and click the Open file.
• Click File or Microsoft Office on the top menu bar. Choose Save As from the list of options.
• Rename the PowerPoint file if you want. Navigate your folder system to where you want the file saved. Change the Save as type to PowerPoint Template. Click Save.

Edit pps or ppsx

If you want to edit a PPS or PPSX file without changing the extension, take either of these tips:
1. In Windows Explorer, drag and drop the PPS or PPSX file into an empty PowerPoint window.
2. Launch PowerPoint and open a PPS or PPSX using the File/Office button or the Open option to edit a presentation.
